Holy Orders

Jesus Christ chose certain men to be his apostles who would continue His ministry after He ascended to heaven. Those apostles in turn chose additional men to continue Christ’s ministry and spread the faith to all nations. God has promised never to abandon His Church, and He continues to call men to teach, govern, and sanctify His bride the Church.

The Sacrament of Holy Orders is conferred on those men whom God has chosen to serve the Church as deacons, priests, or bishops. The sacrament configures a man to the life of Jesus Christ and bestows upon him the grace to carry out this sacred calling.
